And So the Summer Begins…

It’s only May and most of us have already done our spring planting. Whatever happened to Victoria Day as the day when we would confidently plant and avoid frost? The patio at Salamanders is no exception: Glenda and Beth have been diligently planting and putting together the landscaping for the season. Meanwhile, on a lovely spring day, guests have filled the patio with the familiar sounds of conversation and laughter.
Other signs of spring include: kayakers and canoeists plying the Reach; Lorraine Delangis placing her fabulous annual fabric sculpture exhibition at Salamanders; the Arts Guild completing their spring show of excellent local artists and craftspeople right along the waterfront; the Municipality installing the spectacular Harbourfront dock in plenty of time for the long weekend; our friends, the Jehovah Witnesses back in the Rotary Park; the Park itself sporting its annual array of flowers; and many people just walking, enjoying the warmish weather, many with their canine friends. I forgot to mention: the Acadian flag is back out on display…
We have had several large groups at Salamanders in the past month: folks ending their school year, others celebrating birthdays, yet others holding meetings. The bar side of the restaurant is often home to a large group of 40 or more, including weddings and the receptions that go with them. Récemment, le Regroupement francophone de Merrickville nous a visité pour prendre un pot et un bon souper. At Salamanders, you will never have to try competing with televisions blaring in the background. We are all about friends and family meeting as part of a community hub.
Some visitors to our restaurant are very special: they are folks from out of town who are travelling to visit family or friends. Year after year, these people drop in on us as a way station in their travels. Renewing acquaintance is always a treat.
Liane and her stalwart team are ready for the summer onslaught with spring and summer specials you will be sure to enjoy. Just remember that during Patio Season, you will wish to make a reservation. We can sometimes accommodate guests who walk in; on some days however, we are forced to turn people away. We sure don’t like doing that, so please, give us a call at 613-258-2630 or consult our reservation service on line at www.salamanders.ca.
Welcome to summer and welcome to Salamanders of Kemptville!
